Description

The Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) manages nearly 1,400 square miles of land, facilities, and infrastructure. For more than 50 years, maintenance documentation relied on paper-based processes—resulting in lost packages, incomplete approvals, and limited visibility into operational data required for the site’s financial reporting. Recognizing the need for modernization, the Mission Support and Test Services (MSTS) organization began its digital transformation by implementing DataSplice as a mobile platform for maintenance workflows.

The original rollout plan targeted full implementation within two years. However, as the program expanded, the team quickly discovered that successful transformation required more than technology—it required rethinking processes, engaging users, and adapting the platform to MSTS’s specific operational needs.

DataSplice’s extensive configurability was a key advantage. Over time, MSTS developed highly tailored solutions, including multi-signature digital support documents with pre-populated asset data, automated markings for sensitive information, customized views for different organizations, and integrations with systems such as Maximo and Open Range. These capabilities enabled complex paper processes to be effectively replicated—and improved—in a mobile environment.

This session shares lessons learned from a multi-year rollout, including user adoption challenges and the realization that slowing implementation and involving users in development ultimately accelerated long-term progress.
